Update: It’s officially official! On Sunday, July 26—three days after the Netflix rom-com The Kissing Booth 2 premiered —the cast announced in a Live YouTube event that The Kissing Booth 3 is happening. “It’s true!” Joey King announced. “It’s because of everyone on here that this all happened.” In fact, the third film was already completely when the cast filmed the second movie in South Africa, and will premiere sometime in 2021. “It was the hardest secret to keep,” Joel Courtney said.

The third film was, once again, directed by Vince Marcello, and based on The Kissing Booth books by Beth Reekles. Joey King will return as star and executive producer, along with cast members Joel Courtney, Jacob Elordi, Taylor Zakhar Perez, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Meganne Young and Molly Ringwald. Netflix also released a separate announcement on TKB‘s Instagram page, which you can see here:

King also had Marcello and Reekles unveil an exclusive first look clip (see below) of TKB3 in which a carefree and happy Elle, Noah, Lee and Rachel are hanging out at the pool when Elle gets a call from Harvard’s administration office. She declines the call, but when Noah asks if everything is OK, she says it’s fine. She then whispers in his ear and Noah responds, “Yes, I would like that very much,” to which she says, “Yeah, I thought you might.” The two playfully go inside the house because according to Elle, Noah wants to read her some poetry. (Is that what all the kids say now?) Lee and Rachel know they’re up to something, but let them go off and do their thing.

If you’ll remember (and how could you not), The Kissing Booth 2 ended on a cliffhanger, with Elle having yet to decide if she’ll attend Berkeley or Harvard, and Marco harboring some serious feelings for her. “He’s not over Elle at all,” Taylor Zakhar Perez told Glamour. “I would like justice for Marco!”

Maisie Richardson-Sellers was vocal about wanting a third movie as well. “I want to see more of Elle and Chloe’s friendship. There’s so much left unsaid.”

Well, now it looks like we’ll get all those answers and then some. Stay tuned to this post which will be updated as more information comes in.

Original story: The Kissing Booth 2 has been out for less than 24 hours, and I’m here to tell you that it’s not greedy at all to start asking about a third film. I’ll refrain from totally spoiling the ending, but…there has to be The Kissing Booth 3 on the horizon, right? Plus, The Kissing Booth was the most rewatched movie on all of Netflix in 2018—if The Kissing Booth 2 achieves even half that success, it’s just smart business to keep the franchise going.

While Netflix hasn’t announced a third film, which is based off the Beth Reekles novels of the same name, we went ahead and asked some of the cast if they’d be down for a third. Kissing Booth 2 scene stealer Taylor Zakhar Perez (who plays charming new classmate, Marco) didn’t hesitate to tell us “of course” he’d return to the role. “The cast was so lovely to work with that it would be wonderful to get back together,” he tells Glamour. “It’s fun and light-hearted, especially during these times. I hope we get to bring some fun and joy to the audience for the third.” (Careful: Some spoilers ahead.)

Plus, he points out, we still have to find out which school Elle (Joey King) will choose, something she’s still debating by the end of the movie. Not to mention Marco’s unresolved feelings for her. “Yeah, I don’t think he is over Elle at all,” Zakhar Perez says. “At the end of the movie when Marco’s buddy says, ‘Come on, dude, she’s not worth it,’ and Marco says, ‘Yeah, she is,’ you’re like, what?! How do you leave it at that knowing what could happen?”

Zakhar Perez believes in Elle and Marco so much that he’s already worked out a possible story in his mind should the franchise get a third film. “He’s going to take a gap year and go to New York, or maybe South Africa. We really have to round out Marco and Elle’s relationship because I felt like he brings such a good energy to her life.” Zakhar Perez also points out that Marco is honest with Elle, something she doesn’t always get from Noah. “I feel like there’s always something hiding around every corner, so I would like justice for Marco.”

And what if we don’t get a third movie? “Well, then I think he’s going to keep playing his guitar and singing,” Zakhar Perez says with a laugh.

Maisie Richardson-Sellers, who plays Chloe, Noah’s new BFF from Harvard, is also excited about the possibility of The Kissing Booth 3. “I definitely want a third movie,” she tells Glamour. “I want to see more of Elle and Chloe’s friendship. There’s so much left unsaid, so I’m really hoping for it.”

If there is a third film, it would also make sense why Elle kept referencing the future so much, especially in the last few minutes. You could have played a drinking game every time she mentioned “…in five years.” Just for reference, I transcribed it: “So, what do I want to be in five years? I haven’t the slightest idea. Most kids my age are still trying to figure that out, and maybe it’s because it’s less about what I want to be, and more about who I want to be. Because I can tell you this: in five years, I want to be my brother’s joy, I want to be my dad’s love, and my mom’s warmth. In five years , I want to be Rachel’s kindness, I want to be Noah’s courage, and his mom’s wisdom. But most of all, I wanna be my best friend’s laughter. All those things together is who I wanna be in five years, and anything else beyond that, well, I might have to wait until I get where I’m going to figure that out.”

Just saying: a third movie set five years from now would be a good place to check in on these characters. Plus, did Elle choose Berkeley or Harvard? I have to know! Your move, Netflix.

The Kissing Booth 2 is now streaming on Netflix.
